PDFsam PDF Editor

Due to their small size and ability to protect them from being modified, PDF (Portable Document Format) files have been around for many years and are widely used for emailing documents. Back in the early 1990s, Adobe developed the PDF format and is still widely used today. In fact, PDFs are almost as common these days as Word files, and if you’ve been using a computer for any time you’ve most likely opened one.

Now you may want to remove pages from another PDF file or add pages to a particular PDF file. Or maybe you want to make a custom PDF file to rearrange the page order in your PDF file. With the free Adobe Reader software, this is not possible and normally requires you to buy Adobe Acrobat Professional for about $500 or some other more expensive software. Now there’s a free program that allows you to delete pages from a PDF document as well as merge pages from a different document and it’s called PDFsam technology.

PDFsam comes in two versions, including both a basic version and an upgraded version. The basic version will be everything you need to get the job done for most people unless you need more advanced features. All versions are available, but they recommend giving a donation to their company if you use the upgraded version. The basic version enables the following to be done:

  • Divide reports into individual pages or chapters
  • Reorder pages of papers
  • Combine separate documents
  • Extract and place sections of a PDF in another file(s)
  • Rotate orientations of the page
  • To automate your recurrent jobs, save and load your workspace

Once PDFsam is downloaded and installed, you will see that the interface is easy to use. To start working on them, you can simply drag the PDF files you want to change into the main window.

From here, by clicking the Merge Files button, you will have the option of combining all the files in your list into one folder.

Clicking on Split / View Pages will expand the pages in the PDF files that you have loaded into PDFsam so that you can drag and drop pages from one PDF to another or reorder them in the same PDF file. You can also highlight pages and click the Remove Page button to remove from the PDF file that page.

You can swing over a specific page and a preview\thumbnail of what that page looks like will be shown. The Thumbnail Size slider adjustment will allow you to adjust the size of the thumbnail previews. Clicking Remove File will remove the highlighted file from your list and it will clear all the files from the list by clicking Clear Table.
